Good bye Denver, Bye bye Nikki, Hello Beer!

Friday, October 1

After a great natural breakfast at UDI bakery we headed to Cake Crumbs for the good bye's, get some legal papers printed off the bakery computer, and got them notarized at Nicole's bank. We're still trying to get Dad's house closed!!
We were also treated to THE BEST lemon cupcake in the world,,,seriously.
So are you ready to see some of the most beautiful country ever??? Let us show you the Great Rocky Mountains.

 The first stop......

Beautiful Golden Colorado!!!  This little mountain town is an oasis of beer, food, and friendly people.
But before the beer lets see some of the scenery on the way there.

On the way to Golden we were amazed at the scenery on the way. Dayna was clawed into the dashboard, something about twisty roads, 7% grades, and long drop offs, but we made it alive. I think she was ready to walk back to Michigan.

Clear Creek Rules and Regs.

cold and clear
beautiful

This was along HWY-6 off I-70 west..on the way to Golden....pure clear running water, Clear Creek..wilderness is just 30 feet from the car anywhere in the mountains!

Crazy view huh? Colorado has a lot of this. Dayna...you can open your eyes!!!

NOW...back to COORS.

The story.

An original brew kettle, these things hold about 14,000 gallons of beer, and are copper.

Here they are in action, Coors makes many different beers in Golden, the list is huge, and each kettle makes a different named brew.

Another room of kettles.

They make their own bottles and cans right on sight, the spent mash goes to feed cows and other animals, and fertilizer. They don't waste anything, and all the water comes from aquifers right under the plant.

After the tour through the plant...guess what? FREE BEER.......!!!!!!! Not only did we have fresh beer right off the line, but they allowed each guest up to 3-12 OZ drafts. Most of the product line was on tap, and a couple of new ones under development. No wonder the place was packed!!! You don't have to take the tour to get into the tasting room...it is a college town, I think you can figure out where the students spend a lot of time when not in class!! One of the employees said that they get 3 cases a month and a discount on any over 3. Not a bad benefit!
Dayna tasted the beer, but she made funny faces with each sip so she stuck with pink lemonade. Sad.

After all this we wandered around historic downtown, and had an awesome dinner at one of the southwest restaurants, the Table Mountain Inn, and enjoyed the street party downtown, called 1st Friday. Music, more food and a ton of folks having a blast in the streets.

After it got dark we headed west to Idaho Springs to spend the night. Dayna was much more relaxed doing the twisty road back in the dark, alot of tunnels, and traffic made it a slower drive.
